CRLC Community Engagement Manager Job Description


The Community Engagement Manager assists the Executive Director and Land Conservation Manager with their efforts to grow and maintain the constituencies who participate with CRLC in the Richmond Region. The Manager will be responsible for drafting electronic and print communications, maintaining mail lists, promoting CRLC, and also advancing fundraising goals. 


Areas of Responsibility

The Community Engagement Manager reports to the Executive Director and works closely with the Land Conservation Manager at CRLC



This is a part-time position with a flexible schedule of 15-20 hours per week. Salary range for most candidates is $20-25 per hour, depending on experience. No benefits.


Community Outreach (75%) 

  • Plan and execute strategic events to engage a diverse range of community members in conservation efforts, advocacy campaigns and fundraising – to include Fields, Forests + Streams, festivals, farmers markets, civic meetings, etc.
  • Manage CRLC’s social media presence on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter; Develop goals to increase engagement on social media
  • Develop and maintain strategic partnerships with nonprofits, agencies and civic groups within the Richmond Region to advance CRLC’s mission
  • Recruit and manage volunteers
  • Maintain constituent database in Blackbaud's eTapestry
  • Oversee donor appeal letters and gift acknowledgments
  • Update and maintain the CRLC website, send email communications through MailChimp, produce the bi-annual newsletter using Adobe Illustrator under the guidance of the Executive Director
  • Generate periodic press releases related to current conservation projects or important conservation news under the guidance of the Executive Director
  • Assist with annual monitoring of existing easements and site visits to prospective easement properties; recruit volunteers for easement related projects


Administration (25%)

  • Oversee the management of all CRLC records and documents both in hardcopy and digitally per the CRLC Records Policy
  • Attend Advancement Committee meetings and take minutes
  • Assist the Land Conservation Manager by attending Easement Committee meetings and take minutes


Requirements of the Position

  • Passion for protecting the natural and historic land and water resources
  • Enthusiastic, self-motivated and able to work independently as well as possess the ability to collaborate and interact with members, volunteers, and staff
  • Excellent writing skills, including copy-editing skills, and oral and written communication and presentation skills to frame a compelling case statement for support
  • Strong attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple projects and organize various events with short- and long- lead schedules, prioritize work and meet deadlines
  • Experience with nonprofit social media and knowledge of social media trends
  • Donor database management, website management, and email marketing, 
  • eTapestry, Adobe Illustrator, MailChimp and Microsoft Office experience and/or proficiency
  • Ability to build and maintain strong partnership across sectors in the Richmond Region
  • Flexibility to work occasional nights and weekends and travel to meetings and event
  • Bachelor’s degree and work experience in related field


Preferred skills

Knowledge of land and water resource conservation

Experience with issue-based campaigns
