Fundraising Manager – posted 01/29/24

The Fundraising Manager is responsible for the day-to-day management of CRLC’s donors (inclusive of individuals, corporations, foundations, and government) including maintaining the organization’s constituent database, preparing donor solicitation and acknowledgment letters, managing pledges, collaborating with CRLC Board of Directors and staff on prospective donors, and planning events to connect with existing and potential donors. The Fundraising Manager provides high-level assistance to the Executive Director and Director of Conservation Partnerships to both grow and retain donors to CRLC through donor analytics, research, cultivation, solicitation, and targeted appeals to donors. The Manager’s responsibilities also include office management, and grant writing and administration for general purpose grants. The position is privy to sensitive information and requires diplomacy and discretion. The Manager works with the Community Engagement Manager to create messaging that informs, excites, and inspires donors and partners to support the mission, vision, and values of CRLC.

Compensation

This is a full-time position with a salary range of $50-60,000 annually, depending on experience. CRLC provides a benefits package including phone stipend, annual and sick leave, retirement, and health insurance. The position is hybrid in-person/remote with approximately 3 days per week in the office required.

Areas of Responsibility

The Fundraising Manager reports to the Executive Director and works closely with other staff at CRLC to ensure organizational effectiveness for sustainable funding needed to implement organization strategies, policies, and practices outlined in the 2024-2027 Strategic Plan and annual fundraising plan.

Fundraising and Grants Support (80%)

  • Develop and write donor appeal letters and direct mail campaigns
  • Process donation/gifts and prepare accurate and timely acknowledgment letters
  • Enter data and maintain constituent database in Blackbaud’s eTapestry, especially through accurate data entry of donations; updates to contact information, and preparation of mailing lists and mail merge documents
  • Manage outstanding pledges and send scheduled and unscheduled pledge reminders
  • Conduct donor research, donor analytics, and perform data-centric tasks that synthesize and accurately present relevant information to members of the organization
  • Draft annual fundraising plan and monitor progress toward plan, support presentations, budget forecasting, fundraising goal setting, and other needs
  • Develop strategies to grow new CRLC donors and retain existing donors while also increasing their average annual gift. Strategies predominantly are aimed at unrestricted giving though may include some capital projects when appropriate.
  • Help steward relationships with foundations, corporations, and other funders by supporting Executive Director and other staff in preparing grant applications and reports
  • Assist Executive Director in soliciting Corporate Partner and event sponsorshipsWork with the Community Engagement Manager to develop targeted solicitations for social media, email, and website as well as other strategies for fundraising at community events
  • Work with the Community Engagement Manager on events to engage a diverse range of community members – such as CRLC’s annual Field, Forest, and Streams event

Office Management (20%)

  • Oversee the management of CRLC records and documents both in hardcopy and digitally per the CRLC Records Policy.
  • Assist staff and the Board with scheduling, logistics, and taking Board meeting minutes.
  • Coordinate the smooth function of the office including email, postal mailings, filing, photocopying, maintaining office equipment and stocking supplies.

Requirements of the Position

  • Experience and/or proficiency in donor database management (i.e. eTapestry), email marketing (i.e. MailChimp), and basic promotional design (Canva or Adobe Illustrator), and proficiency in Microsoft Office;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to frame a compelling case for giving
  • Strong attention to detail, time management, and ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and organize fundraising strategies with defined outcomes
  • Self-motivated, able to work independently and with people of diverse backgrounds
  • Approach job functions and teammates with the flexibility to manage competing priorities; Define needs, design solutions, and deliver desirable outcomes in a timely manner.
  • Act with integrity and knowledge to promote the culture, values, and mission of CRLC
  • Willingness to work occasional nights and weekends and travel to meetings and events as needed and adapt with flexibility to manage competing priorities and changing dynamics

Preferred skills

  • Experience with Blackbaud eTapestry donor database for donor segmentation and reporting
  • Experience drafting compelling fundraising messages, appeals and digital marketing to reach new and existing donors
  • Proven record of growing donor base, including number of donors, unrestricted annual gifts, and average gift amount as well as above standard renewal rates
  • Understanding and experience with nonprofit management and IRS charitable giving rules
  • Knowledge of land and water resource conservation and passion for conserving natural and historic resources of the Richmond region
