10 Year Anniversary of JRPS Conservation Easement

June 5, 2019

WHEN: June 5, 2019 at 12:00 noon - 1:30 pm

WHERE: Pony Pasture Rapids Park (7200 Riverside Drive, Richmond VA 23225)

On May 29, 2009 city officials signed a conservation easement (formally recorded on June 9) on approximately 280 acres of the James River Park System with the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation, the Enrichmond Foundation (then known as the Richmond Recreation and Parks Foundation) and the Capital Region Land Conservancy(CRLC). The easement enshrined permanent protections that prevent development of the land by the city or any future owner and ensure the safeguarding of its natural resources as an unique wilderness area.

CRLC takes the lead on stewardship of the easement, conducting annual monitoring with the support of the Friends of the James River Park (FOJRP). As FOJRP conducts a community master plan for the future of the park, we take this time to remind the public of the ten-year anniversary of the conservation easement and the protections afforded within.

This June 5 CRLC will be hosting a celebration at the Pony Pasture section of the park system (7310 Riverside Drive Richmond, VA 23225) to honor conservation efforts past, present, and future including the nomination and dedication of the park system easement lands as a protected forest with the Old Growth Forest Network.

Please join us for a FREE celebration. Be sure to bring your our picnic and RSVP at the following webpage:
